Ensemble Subjects
The Faculty of Music’s extensive ensemble program gives all students the opportunity to include ensemble performance in the breadth component of their degree. Whether you’re an advanced musician or a complete beginner, there is an ensemble opportunity for everyone. Enhance your future career through ensemble performance - hone your teamwork and leadership skills, experience cultural diversity, nurture your creative skills and build networks and friendships that will last a lifetime.
Ensemble sequences and packages
While most breadth subjects are worth 12.5 points each, ensemble subjects are 6.25 points each. To keep your enrolment balanced, it’s recommended that you enrol in ensemble sequences or packages.
To make the most of your ensemble experience, subjects should generally be taken as a sequence; 12.5 points over the year. Eg: Sinfonia 1 (sem 1) and Sinfonia 2 (sem 2).
You might also consider an ensemble package of 2 ensembles per semester; 12.5 points in a single semester. Eg: Famous Opera Choruses and World Music Choir.
It is recommended you discuss how ensemble enrolments will work within your course structure with a course advisor at your Student Centre.
How do I enrol?
If you have the musical background equivalent to the recommended performance standard, you should discuss an enrolment with a course advisor at your Student Centre or enrol online.
For semester 2, 2008, if you enrol in Melbourne University Symphony Orchestra or Big Band, your enrolment will need to be confirmed at audition. You'll be contacted by the Faculty of Music, once you have enrolled, to arrange this.
New enrolments in Chamber Music for semester 2 are by special permission only. Email the Faculty of Music to request this, detailing your musical background.
