Practice Facilities
Seven practice rooms in the Music Basement Annexe, five rooms at 23/25 Royal Parade and seventeen rooms at 214 Berkeley Street are available for BMus piano students, vocalists and instrumentalists with accompanists. Berkeley St rooms are accessible via passcard, 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
Special arrangements are made for practice by International students who have no alternative access to a piano: such students should contact the Dean’s Office or Degree Programs Office for details.
Pianos for Home Practice
The Faculty has arranged a special service with a piano supplier, through which students who have moved here to study and have no piano to practice on at home can get a good quality Yamaha (or similar) upright piano located in their home for the whole academic year, March to November, at a heavily discounted rate.
The service is available at approximately $85 per month including GST, plus the removal and tuning cost (which for a ground-floor suburban delivery comes to approximately $290). For students who have the hardship of having come to the Faculty from more than 500 km away, the Faculty is prepared to cover the rental cost, provided the student pays removal and tuning. This service is intended for students enrolled in a practical subject on piano however arrangements can be made for non-piano students with special permission from the Dean. If you are interested, please register with the Dean’s executive assistant.
