Electro-Acoustic & Recording Studios
The Faculty currently operates four well-equipped studios. All studios are connected via Ethernet to a dedicated file server.
Studio 1 is a sound synthesis, composition and recording area, with various MIDI-controlled modules, a Yamaha Disklavier, Macintosh G4 computer with Digidesign ProTools 24 MIX hard disk recording system, ADAT digital multitrack, Cubase audio/MIDI sequencing software, Finale notation software, AKAI sampler, CD burner and Lexicon and Yamaha signal processing devices. It is well suited to film and television soundtrack projects, being equipped with video and SMPTE-synchronised DAT.
Studio 2 (with Disklavier Grand) acts as a live recording space for Studio One.
Studio 3 comprises 3 separate workstations, each based on a Macintosh G4 computer. Stations 1 and 2 include a Digidesign Digi001 hard disk recording system with ProTools LE, DAT, CD burner and basic MIDI facilities. The Notation Station is optimised for advanced notation work, with Finale software, large monitor, A3 printer, MIDI keyboard and playback facilities.
A central Control Room is linked to Melba Hall for the recording of concerts, CD and DVD production and technical support for Faculty performance activities. Access is normally limited to technical staff.
Access for undergraduate composition and Introduction to Electro-Acoustic Music students is arranged via a Day Booking. A sign-up sheet at the studio allows student to reserve the space for a maximum of 2 hours per day. All bookings are subject to review by Composition and Technical staff. Currently enrolled composition students and postgraduate composition students who have significant studio tasks may obtain a 24 hour/7 day access passcard on approval by the Head of Composition.
Not Allowed:
