Ian Godfrey
IAN GODFREY, M.Mus, B.Ed(sec)
Ian Godfrey graduated in music from the Melbourne College of Advanced Education and went on to specialise in the areas of music education and performance. A fine performer on many woodwinds with baritone saxophone his main instrument, he has performed with the MSO, Orchestra Victoria, as well as many recordings and broadcasts on the ABC. As a member of the Peter Clinch Saxophone Quartet he played and taught in the USA, Europe, Japan, China and Hong Kong. His current ensemble is The Melbourne Saxophone Quartet which toured to Spain for the International Saxophone Congress.
At the Faculty of Music Ian established the saxophone ensemble and directs the Big Band. The emphasis is on 20th and 21st Century music and the promotion of Australian repertoire. Saxophone quartets are a feature of the Faculty with a number of groups currently rehearsing under Ian's direction.
