Prof Shkolnikova began playing violin at the age of five, and studied at the Moscow Conservatorium with Lillia Kossodo and Yuri Yankelevich.
She won first prize in the prestigious Marguerite Long and Jacques Thibaud violin competitions in 1953 and is a former faculty member at the Gnesin Institute of Music in Moscow and the School of Music at the University of Indiana, in the USA.
Professor Shkolnikova joined the staff of the Victorian College of the Arts (VCA) in 1983 after meeting the then head of the VCA’s School of Music, John Hopkins, during a tour of Germany.
She has performed solo recitals and appearances with orchestras in the former Soviet Union, Europe, USA, Canada, Japan, Australia and New Zealand.
