Welcome to the Faculty of Music

The courses at the Faculty of Music aim to set musical study in a broad context. The compulsory subjects will expand your knowledge of the Western past and the diverse present, and hone your practical abilities to advanced levels; these subjects require skills not just of technical dexterity but also research, analysis, and communication.

As well, the courses are designed to meet the demands of preparing musicians for a number of rapidly changing and varied professions through a range of optional subjects and course patterns. Our course caters for different streams of practical ability, to provide opportunities for students to pick up basic skills they maybe missing in the first year, and to strengthen the focus on a major in the later years. We rely on the fact that our students are talented, imaginative and highly motivated; this makes it possible to strive for excellence in an intellectually rigorous and stimulating curriculum.

As a Faculty of Muisc student, you are part of the oldest and most distinguished music school in Australia. Make the most of your time in the Faculty and all it has to offer.
