Overview
The Faculty offers an array of advanced performance programs, including the Master of Music in Performance, the Doctor of Musical Arts, and the Doctor of Philosophy in Music Performance for performers at a high level who possess a suitable scholarly background. These programs offer intensive instrumental study supported by appropriate academic depth.
Performance opportunities
The Faculty's performance opportunities are both wide and intense. In most performance courses there is a weekly performance class exclusively for the postgraduate cohort as well as the opportunity to participate in the very wide range of masterclasses, performance classes, ensembles. Postgraduate performers also have opportunities to appear in the Faculty's busy concert program.
Awards and prizes
The faculty is richly endowed with awards and prizes for postgraduate students and in the performance area in particular. There are numerous prizes, scholarships and bursaries available to performers and details of these can be obtained from the Faculty Front Office. Some of these awards are very valuable indeed and application for them is highly competitive.
Distinguished staff and students
The Faculty has a rich history of past and present performance staff including major practitioners on a world basis. Amongst the staff are Barry Tuckwell, John Hopkins, Nelli Schkolnikova, Rosamund Illing, Ronald Farren-Price, Stephen Mcintyre, Ian Holtham, Michael Kieran Harvey, Geoffrey Tozer, Rosamund Illing, Merlyn Quaife and many other luminaries.
Distinguished students include Kristian Chong, Benjamin Northey, Coady Green, Mark Kruger, Zoe Knighton, Cameron Hill, Lerida Delbridge, Christopher Field. Many past students are also active as staff members.
Visiting performers
The Faculty has a vast array of visiting performers from conductors Piero Gamba, Richard Bonynge and Marco Zuccarini to pianists Stephen Kovacevich, Christina Ortiz, Leslie Howard and Paavali Jumppanen. Visiting performers of international distinction for a fundamental part of the Faculty’s teaching, masterclass and assessment program.
