Lecturer : Prof Warren Bebbington

This subject continues from Music Techniques 1-1 with the introduction to tonal principles basic to the understanding of the Western musical tradition. Students develop skills at recognising and manipulating harmonic textures in four parts on paper away from their instruments. As the lectures consider principles of motion and organisation in a cumulative way, attendance at lectures and tutorials is essential.

The Online Course component of Techniques 1-2 is designed as an extension and enrichment of the subject. It is not a substitute for lectures or tutorials. Navigating through the course is done via links. If you are unfamiliar with using Web pages click here. Musical examples can be played back by pressing the triangle on the left-hand side of the "quick-time" playback bar.
